The 5th General Assembly of the Macau MBA Association was successfully completed on the 11th December 2002 in Hotel Ritz. The meeting was started by the President of the Executive Committee, Ms. Delina Iu, with a review of the past activities, followed by a presentation of the financial report consolidated by the Treasurer, Mr. David Chan. These documents were endorsed by the Fiscal Council and Mr. Jorge Basto, the President, gave a favorable remark to the encouraging achievements of the Association during the past years.
After the meeting, a new cabinet was elected in accordance with the Association’s Charter. The new President of the Executive Committee, Mr. Clement Sio, expressed his sincere gratitude for the support he received. He also gave a brief presentation of other cabinet members as well as his activity plans for the next two years, while encouraging more people to join the Association and work closely together.
Mr. Arnaldo Santos, President of the General Assembly, congratulated the new executive team and encouraged them to give more contributions to the MMBAA members and the Macau community as a whole.

2. The New MMBAA Office became operational
The new office is located at Rua do Padre Antonio (
高樓街) No.6-8A, Edf. Hou Kok 1A & 1B. It comprises two connected flats and provides a spacious area for work, meetings, and other activities. After renovation and refurnishing, the office has been put into service in December 2002. All members are welcome to visit and make use of the facilities.We are very thankful to the MSAR Government for granting the office to the Association and the support from the Finance Department throughout the process.
3. MMBAA participated in an economic forum with the Macau Junior Chamber
Macau Junior Chamber, China『澳門(中國)青年商會總會』organized a forum - “Mainland China, Taiwan, HK & Macau Youth Business Forum” on 10th November 2002. The theme of this event is “Entrepreneurs in Action” whereby the Macau JC aimed to promote relationship among the new entrepreneurs in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau as well as economic growth in the Greater China region.
The MMBAA is the only coordinating organization for this event. Mr. Davis Fong, Vice President of Executive Committee, participated in the forum and shared with the audience his views concerningthe social and economic impacts on gambling liberalization in Macau together with other distinguished guests from Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Mainland China.
4. Gatherings were held to enhance communications
The MMBAA organized two gatherings on 1st March 2002 at the Mandarin Oriental and the Macau Tower on 6th April 2002 to celebrate the Chinese New Year and Easter respectively. Many members and their families joined the parties. They spend enjoyable nights together where they also actively exchanged ideas about the Association’s past and future development.
5. MMBAA strengthens cooperation with Tsinghua
In 20th October 2002, MMBAA signed two Letter of Intent (LOIs) with the MBA Student Union and the National Entrepreneurship Research Center of Tsinghua University of Beijing, represented by Dr. Yang Bin and Prof. Jiang Yien Fu respectively. This cooperation aims to increase interactions between the parties on academic studies about management and economics, in a bid to promote the application of scientific management concepts in Beijing and Macau which is one of the prime objectives of the Association.
6. MMBAA organized a conference on technology innovation
In order to explore the interwoven relationship between technology innovation and regional economic development and the essential technology policies in the new economic era, the MMBAA organized a conference called “Technological Innovation and Regional Economic Development” in 20th October 20001 in the Cultural Centre. Scholars and professionals from Beijing, Taiwan, Hong Kong and local institutions analyzed the impact of technology innovation on regional economic development and share their views over a diverse field, including the future trend in technology innovation, application of technology innovation, industrial transformation and the ensuing gain in economic efficiency, etc.
The conference received generous support from the Office of Public Works and Transports, CTM, CEM, and other organizations. The Secretary, Mr. Ao Man Long, also presided at the opening ceremony.
